Acupuncture is the insertion of ultra-thin, sterile needles into specific acupuncture points on the body which reside on channels or meridians; these are pathways in both the exterior and interior of the body. These points, when needled, can regulate the way in which the body functions. Acupuncture helps by addressing problems that affect fertility such as an under-functioning thyroid (hypothyroidism) or over-functioning thyroid (hyperthyroidism).
Acupuncture fertility treatment, frequently combined with herbal medicine, has been used for centuries to treat some but not all causes of infertility. For example, acupuncture and herbs will not work to address tubal adhesions which can occur as a result of pelvic inflammatory disease or endometriosis. However, in this situation, an individual could still benefit from acupuncture and herbs because of the potential effect of improved ovarian and follicular function. Additionally, acupuncture can increase blood flow to the endometrium, helping to facilitate a thick, rich lining.
Your Acupuncture Fertility Visit
Your first visit will begin with an in depth assessment of your condition followed by your first treatment. A new patient can expect to spend approximately 2 hours in the clinic for the first session. Please allow one hour for returning visits.
Candace Billings, LAc
Candace, a Memphis native, has returned to begin her Oriental medicine and acupuncture practice after finishing four years of studying classical Chinese medicine in Portland, OR at the National College of Natural Medicine, graduating with high honors. Candace decided to pursue a career in Chinese medicine after experiencing life-changing shifts as a patient of this medicine and coming to realize that it combines two of her great loves: nature and human health. The connections between humans and the natural world has long been a fascination for Candace, and after finding Chinese medicine, she knew it was the perfect fit to bring together her interests for the purpose of serving others. She believes that we all possess within us the innate capacity for health and balance.
With the tools offered by Chinese medicine, Candace will work with you to address your concerns holistically, bringing your unique vitality alive on all levels- physical, emotional, and spiritual. While she is excited to offer medicine for the whole family and treats a wide variety of conditions, she has a special interest in women’s health, fertility, pre- and post-partum care, pediatrics, pain, digestive disorders, fatigue, and emotional health. Candace uses acupuncture, moxabustion, herbal therapy, cupping, nutrition and lifestyle counseling, and various forms of body work such as tuina and sotai to treat her patients. She had the great fortune to complete a year-long mentorship under Dr. Robert Quinn in which she studied Japanese meridian therapy. This style of acupuncture is perfect for those with needle sensitivity as one of its most outstanding attributes is its focus on gentle needling technique.
While she’s not treating her patients, you can find Candace spending time with her daughter, Ella (with whom she’s quite smitten), tending her vegetable and flower garden, hiking or otherwise enjoying being outdoors, knitting, sewing, cooking and sharing meals with friends, or relaxing on the porch with a good cup of coffee! Candace is nationally board certified and licensed by the state of Tennesee, and she is excited to meet you and help you achieve your goals.
